This project is a great inspiration! Love the feel of the roll and bounce. I'm into the level design too.

I like how it is so far, interested to see how it turns out!

Been playing this game a fair bit, just 100%ed it (finally found the flying fortress). I come back to it and the godot game dev log stuff to see all of their stuff. Genuinely this game gives me so much inspiration. It feels so good to play and is so insanely charming. I also like looking at the source code stuff to see how they did things. I love this project alot and I would fully support this game if it became a full time project (no pressure at all though teehee).

I'm not gonna sugar coat it, this game kinda made me pissed sometimes, controller support with UI sometimes breaks and i suddenly cant select colors or use menus. the intro felt great though, but damn for whatever reason the first button isnt the one thats got focus like wha

also this is a personal prefrence but i feel like the game is pointing a gun to me when i slow down in a roll and cant just reroll to gain speed again

also it feels like SOMETIMES when i want to jump on a ledge i end up just wall jumping out of where i wanted to go

now im not enough of a nerd to know if any of these things were GOOD but idk thats what im gonna say

Just got a game/pc breaking bug while playing the newman network, I was doing the acorn shard and as I was carrying an acorn the audio (on my pc) completely crashed and the game would only show the skybox texture. I could rotate the texture but nothing else would work, I had to alt + f4 out of the game because I couldn't even menu out. I ended up having to restart my pc because the game crashed my audio drivers too.

There is a LinuxARM version??

Great game

That's looks awesome!

This game's fucking amazing. An incredibly well polished demo of an incredibly and surprisingly unknown gem.

The fact it was made in godot is a plus as well, godot always seems to run incredibly smooth for me. Keep up the good work, and make sure to announce if you ever do a steam release! I'd love to buy a full version.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I plan on returning to this project ASAP as life is currently in the way. Lots of good things we have in store! - Jeff

Man I feel that, our TTRPG podcast was put on temporary hiatus while my PC was broken. Keep working hard and take care of yourself! I look forward to the release!

It looks really cool, but like other games made by Godot, on my HD 2500 the game is not displayed correctly, in this case the main character does not appear.

Edit: As my HD 2500 doesn't have Vulkan I had to run it with OpenGL3. Checked CMD to see if any error appeared and the following appeared:

ERROR: SkeletonShaderGLES3: Vertex shader compilation failed:

ERROR: 0:328: ';' : syntax error syntax error

   at: _display_error_with_code (drivers/gles3/shader_gles3.cpp:252)

ERROR: Method/function failed.

   at: _compile_specialization (drivers/gles3/shader_gles3.cpp:346)

WARNING: shader failed to compile, unable to bind shader.

     at: _version_bind_shader (./drivers/gles3/shader_gles3.h:220)

Edit2: I tried changing the character's colors and it gave me more errors, but the hats work :)

Pretty fun game, I can see the inspiration taken from mario 64 and galaxy and it plays quite similarly to those, mostly very satisfying to platform around.

Some criticisms:

- as most players will I imagine I felt the need to collect all of the jacks, but the ones you get out of boxes despawn after a while, which confused me. Am I meant to collect ALL the jacks or not? It seems like its possible to permanently miss some this way

- some physics bugs with the jacks where they will sit in midair if you break  a box underneath them or if they spill out over a platform when you break a box

- the jacks I guess are 2d sprites, which makes them hard to collect sometimes. maybe just increasing the pickup radius would be enough to fix this

- some moves have very little to no aerial control, such as jumping on the mushrooms or coming up out of the water. I don't know if this is intentional but it doesn't feel particularly nice

- in contrast the roll-jump seems too forgiving? you can jump out of the roll well after you've left the platform to the point where you're air jumping. it feels fairly nice though and allows you to reach further if you time the jump well so I wouldn't say this is actually a bad feature, just not sure if it was intentional

- the boss design isn't great, the bomb phase is too easy (except when it cheats you by changing the number later on) and the bombs slide so far and fast that its often impossible to get to the boss in time. I know you catch them while they're sliding but I dunno it still feels kinda lame. the 2nd attack phase is a bit too harsh, you need to already be running when it starts to avoid the first hit which kind of makes the red circle telegraph pointless, it's just trial and error memorisation rather than skill

- the game crashed on my while I was attempting the boss and wiped all my data, so I quit

Fun game overall though, definitely a good base for what could become a pretty great mario64-alike.

Thank you for writing this for us. We've got a long way to go as this was a cleaned up alpha version we wanted to present to the public-- Your feedback is very valuable! We have and will continue to address some of the movement concerns (along with other qualms you and others have had) as we move forward; we feel very similar and are looking to make the experience as good as it can be. - Jeff

Sounds great, I'll keep an eye on this project! I realised after I played it that you just posted this less than 2 months ago, so I'm excited that there are many improvements to come!

Fantastic game, loved it. I had a couple problems with the level design in the castle, as I fell from the top of the room at one point and had to go all the way back up like 4 times and that was very incovinient, other than that though it was great. I'd give it an 8/10, excited to see where it goes with the full release.

Also loved the old man in the tunnel.

Ok i just went for 100% and got all the shards and I take that 8/10 back it's a 9 or 9.5 /10 I love this game so much I can't get enough of it, I've replayed it multiple times already. Also the whole thing where I said the level design needs some work I sorta take back cause that was mostly just a problem for me cause I sucked at the platforming at first. Can't wait for more.

Just 100%-ed the demo  ! Really fun :D !

yo where is the flying fortress i cant FIND IT AAAA

Remember the water tunnel in the outside area? There was a room  there, right? Go back to that room and investigate as you would in Super Mario 64.

I really dig this! Just spent an hour in the demo and I would definitely play a full version. Gameplay feels great, visuals and vibes are amazing, I like the challenges you have to do in order to get the Shards, the boss fight is awesome.

Some feedback cause I want this game to be great:

- I don't know how else to say this, but the camera feels weird. Right now, the player has to do all the camera movement which can be a little overwhelming, maybe it should adjust itself automatically according to how the player moves. (I played on controller)

- Didn`t know how to use the glove in the first part. So I got a little frustrated that I couldn`t get the seeds on the ground (maybe keeping the items "cross" permanently on the HUD would help too idk).

- The timeframe to do the ground-pound is pretty narrow, which can lead the player to Quick-roll and fall off platforms

- The hitbox for the Jacks feels kinda small. I specially felt that while jumping on mushrooms, I had to be dead center on them to jump and collect the Jacks.

- It feels like the Pause Menu could be a little more controller friendly.

I think that covers it.
I wish y'all the best on the development!

Very good game.

I love the game concept, and the N64-Style visuals are very charming! I've encountered a few bugs, which are expected, but some really made the experience less fun for me.

- I think the major one that bugged (pun intended) me, is the fact that I couldn't invert the Y axis camera. No matter what, it didn't change.

- The logbook didn't track the shards I've gotten for some reason

- The game crashed in the sunflower boss, and I had all shards... I ended up rushing back to the boss with 0 shards.

Some minor bugs that I found:

- The first death I got instantly revived me in place, only to get a delayed "cut" after. (All other deaths were normal)

- You can get a spring stuck between loading zones just by walking in with it (the one between the inside of the tower, and the outside part right before the boss). Doing that also made me load the next area with an invisible object above my head, while running really fast. (this glitch was kinda fun, I wouldn't mind it staying).  I just noticed someone already commented this one, and it's already fixed!

The other major problem I had were performance issues. Even running the game on 1x resolution, I've got nearly constant framerate drops, and while my modest PC lacks a dedicated GPU (Ryzen 5 5600G), I've managed to play (and stream) many other games in the past without issues...

All that said, I still think this is going to be a great game. It's very charming, and it felt really good to play after I got used to the (un?)inverted camera.

Thank you for playing! All of the bugs you've mentioned should be fixed in the latest patch, minus the crashes (which have hopefully been mitigated, but it's still something we've been looking into)

As for performance, the game will sometimes cache shaders and the like whenever they occur for the first time, causing some stuttering. That and the game being slightly CPU intensive can lead to slowdown on some hardware. We will be working on a custom caching/loader in the future, along with script optimizations, in order to maximize performance on all hardware! - Jeff

Nice work! I'll check the updated version soon.

Though, in my case it seemed to be a graphics related slowdown rather than a CPU, cause the gpu was at 100% usage while recording the game. But I'm not sure the task manager is the best way to find it out lol

(+1)

I also got all 12 shards.

(+1)

The game crashed right as a bomb exploded in the sunflower boss battle. The explosion might have hit me, but that's all i know about why it crashed. This reset all my progress which bummed me out, but i'm guessing the boss battle was the end of the demo. Other than that, great demo! I love seeing your progress on the discord and i'm looking forward to playing the full thing.

(+1)

Amazing! I love it! Just nailed the N64 visuals and style. I've got all the shards! Controls are unbelievably good. I had to get used to the ground pound because I sometimes hold the trigger and the character rolls.

A small glitch I found that didn't affect my experience at all: I got the trampoline from outside the tower and took it inside. Upon entering, the character was moving faster and had his arms raised as if holding an invisible object.

Thank you! We will be sure to fix this bug in the upcoming patch. Glad you enjoyed your time! - Jeff

We have fixed this bug in the latest patch. Thank you for reporting it to us! - Jeff

For some reason I just couldn't get used to the camera controls with mouse. Probably personal issue, I kept switching between inverted and not inverted but couldn't get it to feel right. Nonetheless, I did manage to get into the tower and got the the point with obtaining the Spring pad that you could throw around, great idea!

But for so early in the game I did find it frustrating that I i missed a jump I would fall down multiple floors of progress and have to re-climb back up. Sort of like how Tick Tock Clock in SM64 punishes you heavily. This felt a bit too early in the game to punish for missing jumps. I ended up stopping my playthrough because it was in addition to the slight motion sickness from not getting used to the camera controls (again probably just a me issue)

This game looked and felt great but the jumping mechanics felt a bit lacking. At least from a bit of experimenting and reading the About section.

For example, it didnt seem like I could jump out of a roll to get a long horizontal jump. The slam/ground-pound bounce jump didnt seem to add anything to a normal jump. Maybe more jump options and techniques could help. Especially being so used to the long jumps, chain jumps, dives, etc in SM64.

If the future game did expand on this, + also updated how the camera works, I would definitely play this more.

Again, great visuals and theme I really enjoyed the looks of the game.

Thank you for the feedback! The moveset has been something we've looked into expanding upon more along with the camera controls. Apologies for the disorientation you've experienced. We will try and address these issues in future versions! - Jeff

The problem with the camera seems to be that unticking invert camera y doesn't actually change anything on controller or mouse

We have been hearing quite a bit about this bug. We'll be putting out a hotfix for some of the more pressing ones very soon. Really sorry for the inconvenience. - Jeff

And thank you for listening, Jeff. I'm looking forward to more

a good 15, 20, maybe 25 minutes of fun! i thoroughly enjoyed this game :D i cannot wait until it comes out!

One of the best games I have ever played

(1 edit) (+1)

I love it!!! I wanted to leave a comment to point out that for some reason I am unable to pick up the seeds with neither the X button on Xbox Controls or the Left Mouse button. And also I am unsure how to change from Manual Camera mode to Automatic, it might just be my controller. Other than that, I love it a lot!!! Keep up the good work!

EDIT: I found out that I need to press 1 on the keyboard first to select the hand icon, then I will be able pick up things

Nice hat. What're you tryin' to look like, a secret agent

(+2)

REALLY good. The movement is very nice. Visually you nailed the n64 style really well and i like it and also i like the characters and the art direction in general.

Some small things i ran into though:

  • One thing that annoyed me at first though is it's too easy to press shift for slightly too long and end up rolling off some things instead of ground pounding. I accidentally rolled off 2 switches at first and had climb all the way back up to properly ground pound them. Maybe the roll should also act as a ground pound? Or the roll should have a longer start time. Idk i still like the controls as is currently.
  • Also i didn't know about the glove mechanic at first, only after you brought it up in the tower. My friend said i "needed an item" so i thought i unlocked it later but I just didn't know. You should mention it in the controls section of settings. Maybe a indicator of what key i need to press next to the glove icon would also be nice.
  • The low health beeping gets kind of annoying. A way to regenerate health would be nice. Maybe those jacks could slowly regenerate your health as you collect them?
  • I managed to somehow superposition myself into grabbing two ledges at once which makes Newman freak out. i don't know how to reproduce i just jumped  there.
  • I also managed to break the pause menu so its visible when the game is unpaused but invisible when the game is paused, so i can't click anything on it. i don't know how to reproduce this one either, i think it happened during the intro after i pressed "play demo", i was pressing keys. i wish i could help more :-(
  • Personally I would like to be able to zoom out so i can see more of what's around me. Just saying.

Overall though, the game is fun, i like it, and i would definitely like to see more of this. Thank you for releasing this demo :-)

Thank you for reaching out! This kind of feedback means a lot to us and is one of the main reasons why we decided to do an open demo this early on. We'll be addressing some of these issues in an upcoming patch from upstream development that will introduce a bunch of fixes and tweaks that will hopefully make the experience better. - Jeff
